Kevin Ronan "A" Flight celebrates his victory at Irish Creek!
Well the wettest stop this year did not keep players from coming out to play at Irish Creek. Thanks to everyone who participated yesterday, proving that tournament golf is played in all conditions and still all of the flights were competitive. Thanks to the staff at Irish Creek for keeping the greens in excellent shape during the round. We hope to come back on a dry day to play this great redesigned course by Davis Love.
Championship Flight:
Chad Frye might have had the best round of the season firing an even par 71 yesterday in sub par conditions. Frye’s card was a picture of consistency with 16 pars, one bogey and one birdie. Frye thanked his putter for saving him many times during the round. Joe Jaspers might now have won Saturday but did play well enough for a second place finish with 73. Jaspers also picked up $120 in skins money with birdies at 1, 10 & 17 holding up. Third place went to Michael Bailey who was right with Frye at the turn with both players shooting 35, but on the long grueling back nine Bailey slipped back with 3 bogeys and a final round of 74. Points leader continued his fine play this season with a fourth place finish at 75.
A Flight:
Kevin Ronan called me at about 10:00 to make sure the tournament was still being played, and I’m sure now he is glad it was. Ronan captured his first victory of the season by a one shot margin with a very impressive 78 on Saturday. Finishing in second place with 79 was Andrew Chappus. Andrew now has a second and third place finish in his last 2 starts, look out A Flight at Salisbury CC on the 28th. Jason Breedlove nipped out Mike Nasekos on the card with both players firings 84’s. A big time grind for Nasekos who had pulled a rib mussel on Friday and did not think he could even play. Way to gut it out Mike.
B Flight:
Jimmy Chapman and Joe Lewis both shot a pair of 84’s to tie for first place. As the final score was posted in “B†Flight Chapman & Lewis went to number one for a sudden-death playoff. Chapman did not feel real confident commenting that he had lost a three of his previous playoff attempt, but today was Jimmy’s turn as he made par on the first hole for the victory and a (1-3) record now in playoffs. Mark Day held onto his points lead with and 85 and a third place finish. Rounding out the top four was Steve Daniels at 88.
C Flight:
Dean Hearn broke through for the first time this season, and also took over the points lead with an 89 on Saturday. Hearn needed his final putt to drop or we would have had a three way playoff at 90. Finishing just one shot behind were Allen Hagen second and Steve Price who finished in third place on the card. Next a pair of 91’s came in and Brian Sanders nipped out playing partner Chris Jenkins on the card for fourth place.
The tours next stop will take us to the CC of Salisbury on 3/28. The tournament will fill up fast so please register and pay on line ASAP if you do not want to be on a waiting list. Look forward to seeing all of you at CC of Salisbury next Saturday March 28th.
