The eGolf Amateur Tour makes its next stop to a great private country club and a tour favorite Northstone CC 8/21. The course is located right off Hwy 77 at exit 25.
Please email me back (Yes or No) ASAP. This is a 1:30 shotgun start. It will be one of the largest fields of the season. And as the season winds down every tourney is important in gaining points to be in the top 10 for the National Championship in Hilton Head.
Practice rounds are available this Tuesday-Friday only for $35.
Then the following week another favorite private club is on the schedule on Saturday 8/28 Cabarrus CC a 1:00pm shotgun start. This field is limited to 92 players due to limited golf carts so email me back on this one also (Yes or No). Practice rounds are Tuesday-Thursday for $35.
Tee Boxes Northstone:
Champ & A Flight (Dye)
B & C Flight (Championship)
Championship Flight:
Jim Aughtry started out fast Saturday by birding the first hole and then the fifth hole to go 2 under par early in his round. His lone hiccup on the front side was a bogey at number 8 so he turned at 35 one under par. Alex Brenner also turned at one under par after bogie on the first hole he regrouped with birdies at 6 & 8. Dennis McCormac had 8 pars and one bogey on the front nine to turn at 37. Aughtry and McCormac both birdied the tenth hole then the big swing at the 11th hole. McCormac hit a poor drive which left him about 220 yards out. Pulling out his 4 wood he hit his best shot of the day to 5 feet behind the hole. Aughtry however caught a terrible lie in the rough and his second shot found the pond on the right side. After an unfortunate 3 putt Aughtry had posted a triple bogie 7. So now Aughtry had gone from 2 under par to one over and with McCormac’s birdie at eleven he had past both Aughtry and Brenner to go to one under par for the day. Brenner turned right around and made birdie at the par 3 12th hole. So standing on the 15th tee, McCormac still had a one shot lead over Brenner. Hitting driver off the tee it faded right but hit the cart path and went into the hazard on the right side. After dropping 3 McCormac proceeded to butcher the rest of the hole for a triple bogey 8. The final tally was Brenner in first place with an even par round of 72, Aughtry second at 73 and McCormac in third place with 76. Rounding out the top five were JB Burton and Adam Vincent at 77’s.
A Flight:
Greg Ries had not played a lot on tour this summer due to work and family outings but he took advantage of this Saturdays event by winning for the first time this season. Greg fired a smooth 75 to win by one shot and then told McCormac to move him up to Champ Flight even though his AGT index is at 5. Greg said he wants the challenge and feels in working on his game this summer he can win in the Champ Flight, good luck Greg. Newcomer to the tour and local favorite Trey Hovis posted a great round of 76 to capture second place money. Daryl Ewing and William Brockman both finished at 78 but it was Ewing winning on the card for third place. Congrats to Brockman on his best performance of the season as his game continues to improve coming down the stretch run.
B Flight:
Terry Upright won for the second week in a row but had to go an extra hole to due so. After 18 holes were played Upright and newcomer Chris Perret both were tied at 79. To sudden-death both players went to the toughest hole on the course the dreaded 18th hole. Perret found some trouble but Upright calmly pared the playoff hole for the victory. In his victory photo Upright is waiving good bye to his friends in B flight as he new this score would bump him up to A Flight which it did. Ironically when Perret arrived I could not remember his name but I told him if you win I’ll remember you forever because I’ll have a picture of you. Well he did not win but I do have a picture of him now so I’ll know who he is at Northstone (lol). Geof Smith still looking for his first tour victory did not get it Saturday but did finish in third place with a fine 82. Nolan Elenz who recently moved up from C flight cashed for the first time in B flight by beating out Joe Burgess on the card. Both players shot 83.
C Flight:
Larry Hinson won for the first time this year and did so in fine fashion. Hinson posted his best score ever on the eGolf Amateur Tour by firing a 10 over par 82. Finishing 5 shots back were Mr. 2nd Matt Crates and Ken Burke in third place with 87’s. Rounding out the top four was Dan Greer who fired an 88.
