115 Golfers attended the GolfWeek Am Tour event at Cowans Ford Golf Club in Stanley, NC on Saturday March 14th.
There was some very close competition in all the flights on Saturday which made for some exciting and nerve-wracking finishes.
In the Championship Flight, we had some great scores on the day. Cowans Ford member, Scott Patnode, fresh off his Senior Tour victory shot a blistering 4 under par round of 68 to win for the first time this season on the Golfweek Am Tour. Scott was one clear of Jay Barnes (-3,69) who unfortunately made a bogie on his final hole, the 18th. Third place goes to Scott Roberts (-1,71) and rounding out the top four was Mike Gentry (+1,73) beating Matt Kilgo on the scorecard playoff.
In the A Flight, Ryan Brandenburg wins for the first time in 2020 with a round of (+3, 75) to take home the crystal. Dan Stroud (+5, 77) claims second place honors. Phil VanGeersdaelen (+7,79) wins a scorecard playoff over Judd Dye (+7, 79) to take third and fourth respectively. Rounding out the top 5 was Andy Murrow (+8, 80) winning a scorecard playoff over Allen Hagen).
In the B Flight, David Aussicker kept it between the white lines today with a score of (+8, 80) to take a 3 shot victory and claim his first win in 2020. Chris Beeman, a late entry on Saturday morning, claims second with a score of (+11, 83). Chip Goode claims third with a score of (+12, 84). Dale Ambrose (+13, 85) and Russell McDonald (+13, 85) tied for fourth, but it was Ambrose winning the scorecard playoff to take fourth. McDonald had to settle for 5th.
In the C Flight, Eric Herman takes home first place honors with a score of (+14, 86) and a 2-shot victory. Casey McCreary making his tour debut in 2020, claims second place with a score of (+16, 88). Glen Nutting takes 3rd with a score of (+19, 91) winning a scorecard playoff with Tony Pharr (+19, 91) who takes home fourth place honors.
In the D Flight, Greg Scott, wins by 4 shots with a score of (+21, 93) over David Rosier who takes second with a score of (+25, 97).
Congratulations to Chengyu Sun, who made his first-ever HOLE-IN-ONE on the par 3, 7th hole today with a 6-iron. The only bad thing about this accomplishment was that Chengyu was not in either skins pots (Flight or Super).
Our next event takes us to River Run on the Monday March 30th.
If you are looking for events to play in the coming weekends, please look at the neighboring tours as we do have many events in the area. The Upstate tour is hosting two events in NC on the next 2 Saturdays. The 21st at Riverbend in Shelby, NC and then the following weekend (28th) at Apple Valley at the Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure, NC.
We will continue to monitor the status of the COVID-19 issues daily and will keep our players informed of any changes to the tour schedules.
Thanks to all that came out today.
