Cowans Ford 2019
112 golfers took to the course on a sunny, yet cool afternoon. This marks the first of many 1:30 shotgun starts and I'm happy to say that everything went very well from a pace of play stand point. All golfers easily completed their rounds prior to darkness settling in. Before getting to the recap, I want to say Thank You again to all those that contribute to our Stand Up To Cancer drawings. For 2019 we have raised $1,375 which is a great increase over last year.
In the Championship Flight, Jay Barnes wins again. Jay shot event par 72 to win by 1 over Scott Roberts (73, +1). 3rd went to Jody Clary (75, +3) and rounding out the top 4 was John Heffernan (76 +4) who beat out AJ Jackson on the scorecard playoff.
In the A Flight, Scott Ide shots 77 (+5) to win by 4 over three golfers. Going to the scorecard playoff to break the tie, the results we as follow. Eric Stanwick 81 (+9) takes second. Phil VanGeersdaelen takes third and Nick Smith take 4th. 5th place goes to Jason Benguche who shot 82 (+10).
In the B Flight, Dan Ahlers returns to the winner circle for the first time in 2019. Dan's score of 81 (+9) was 2 better than 5 golfers who tied for second. To break the tie, we go to the scorecard. All these players shot the same score of 82 (+11). 2nd goes to Robert Gruendel, 3rd goes to Allen Hagen, 4th goes to Andy Ricci and 5th went to Roger Stevenson.
In the C Flight, Rondal Gibson takes home first place honors and a score of 83 (+11) to win by 4 over Russel McDonald (87, +15). Third place went to Phil Waldier (89, +17) and rounding out the top 4 was Steve Daniels shooting 90 (+18).
In the D Flight, we had our largest margin of victory on the day. To say that our winner, Larry Watkins had a great day would be an understatement. First, he wins the 50/50 draw for a cool $350 before he hit his first shot of the day. Goes out and makes 2 birdie which both hold for Flight Skins, each worth $150, and then shoots 82 to win going away. Once scores are posted, Larry will be getting an email about his graduation to higher flight. In 2nd place, Jeff Finger shoot 96 (+24) and rounding out the top 3 was Toby Strickland (97, +25).
Our next event is Saturday the 23rd at the Country Club of Salisbury. At the time of this writing, we are close to another sell out, so please do not hesitate and get shut out. The field will be maxed out at 112, just like Cowans Ford.
Thanks
Phil
