Championship Flight: Mark Ballew fired a four under par 68 Saturday at Verdict Ridge. His only blemish was a double bogie on 17 to go along with 7 birdies. Dave Schmidt however got his round charged on the back side with birdies at 10,11,12 & 13 to go along with an eagle on the par five 3rd. After all that the two players went to sudden-death on number one with Schmidt besting Ballew with a par. Jim Aughtry is stuck on a good number of 71. Aughtry won the Rock Barn event two weeks ago and also shot one under at this weeks NC Mid AM qualifier. Watch out for Aughtry the rest of the season. Rounding out the top four was Ted Cox at even par 72. Ted tried several putting strokes/grips during the round and finally found one that worked. A Flight: John Cole tasted victory for the first time this season with a fine 75. Steve French was second with 79 and closed the points race gap with Mike Nasekos. Jason Breedlove continues cashing with an 83 good enough for third place. Rounding out the top five was tour veteran Steve Wichnoski at 84 beating out Drew Miller on the card for 4th. B Flight: Matt Cole hosted the victory stein for the first time this season shooting a great round of 78. Finishing 3 shots behind Cole was Jackson Bailey with 81. Steve Daniels cashed for the first time this year with a third place finish at 83. Had it not been for a triple bogey at the 18th Steve well could have finished in second. Fourth place went to Jerry York who continued to improve as the season goes along and put himself right in the points race hunt. C Flight: Joe Saenz played flawlessly Saturday firing an 81 and a welcomed promotion to B Flight, Way to go Joe! Bert Rodriguez was second with 85 beating out Rob Stealey by only one shot at 86. It was the first time this season Stealey has cashed and hopes to host the victory crystal soon. Rounding out the top four was Tom Patania at 89.
