Phil VanGeersdaelen wins B Flight at Cabarrus CC!
Championship Flight:
Tom Cone, a member at Cabarrus CC, took his local advantage and won his first egolf Amateur Tour event this year. Tom almost won last year but made a triple on the final hole to lose by one. This year Tom made a great up an down for par and a 73. Alex Brenner chased Cone all day but finished one shot back at 74. Jim Aughtry continues to move up the points standings with a third place finish at 75. Drew Fassett cashed a fourth place check beating Michael Bailey out on the card with 78.
A Flight:
Steve French fired a 77 Saturday good enough for a 4 shot victory over Jim Boyce's 81. The win puts Steve in second place in the A Flight points standings. John Cormaci continues his steady play and finshed third with an 83. John Evans and Steven Oliverio both shot 85's with Evans winning on the score card playoff.
B Flight:
Phil Vangeersdaelen and Jimmy Singh had to play 19 holes Saturday to decide the winner. Both players shot 80 and then went to sudden-death on the 18th hole at Cabarrus. VanGeersdaelen beat Singh on the hole for his first victory of the 2008 season. Chad Ballard and Greg McCoy both finshed one shot back at 81 with Ballard beating out McCoy on the card for third place.
C Flight:
Allen Hagen fired a 86 for a first place finish in C flight: The victory graduated Hagen to "B" flight for the rest of the season where I know he will do well. Newcomer Tom Patania finshed in second place with a nice round of 87. Matt Papes cashed for the first time this season with 90. A pair of 91's finished tied for fourth place with Nolan Elenz beating out John Rinaldi on the card.
