Steve Price, Terry Upright and John Clark all win at Charlotte National!
After an hour frost delay things heated up fast at Charlotte National GC. The 2009 season got off to s strong start with 100 players competing on Saturday. Thanks to all the staff at Charlotte National for getting the greens in perfect shape after a 27 degree night.
Championship Flight:
Dave Schmidt and Michael Bailey both shot one over par 73’s on Saturday to go into a sudden- death playoff. After three holes Schmidt would come out victorious on the par 3 third hole. Chad Frye had a chance to be in the playoff but his second shot on the 18th ended up left of the green in the high fescue. Frye end up making 6 and finishing in third place with a 75. Adam Vincent rounded out the top four with a 78.
A Flight:
John Clark and Kevin Ronan both finished at 79 and had our second sudden-death playoff on Saturday. Clark was victorious making a par on the first playoff hole. Tour veteran Kevin Ronan noted that this was the 3rd year in a row that he finished in second place in the inaugural event. Roger Stevenson & James Brannen finished 2 shots back of the leaders with a pair of 81’s. Stevenson then beat out Brannen on the score card playoff for 3rd place money.
B Flight:
Terry Upright & Steve Matteo both shot 82’s Saturday to once again give the egolf Amateur Tour another sudden-death playoff. Upright beat Matteo because Matteo had to catch a flight for work right after the round finished. Four players finished 2 shots back with 84’s. Dennis Reames beat all the 84’s on the card for third and Scott Ide got fourth.
C Flight:
Only 2 golfers broke 90 yesterday in the windy conditions at Charlotte National on Saturday. Tour rookie Steve Price started out the season in fine fashion winning his first ever event with an 84. Last years C Flight points winner John Rinaldi finished in second with an 88. Jack Frasier beat out Calvin Adair on the scorecard playoff for third place, both players shot 90.
