Edgewater 2/18/2017
118 golfers descended upon the Edgewater Golf Club in
Lancaster, SC for the 2nd event of the 2017 season. The staff at Edgewater did a great job in
setting up the course and making us very welcome.
In the Championship flight, Joe Jaspers made his return for
2017 a winning one. Capped off by a back
nine of 3 under par which included 3 birdies and an eagle, Joe took 1st place
with a 2 under par 70. Last week's
winner and 2016 National Champion, Jay Barnes finished solo 2nd with an even
par 72. Jody Clary took solo 3rd with a 3 over par 75, and it was Mike Gentry
who earned 4th place honors by winning a scorecard playoff over, Charlie
Niland, Alex Arant and Scott Patnode. All players shot 4 over 76.
In the A flight, it was Tim Smith who was able to
hold everything together this week and win with a score of 2 over 74. Thomas Whitley, who plays of the ATL tour,
shot 78 to finish solo second. Marc
Janse Van Rensburg and Chad Hagaerman finished in a tie for 3rd, both players
shooting 79. In the Scorecard playoff,
it was Marc that took home the 3rd place winnings.
In the B flight Roger Stephenson shot a great round of 80 to
win by two shots over Gregg Sherill. Dean Barron took solo 3rd with a score of
83 and new member Johnny Dover won the scorecard playoff over Doug Stowers to
take home 4th place.
In the C flight, it was 2016 Points Champion, John Page who
coasted to a 5 shot victory shooting a great round of 82. Chuck Young who got off to a slow start, 7
over after his first 4 holes, played really steady after that shaky start to
take home 2nd place honors shooting 87.
Robert Taggart took home 3rd place with a score of 88 and John Anderson
rounded out the top 4 with a score of 89.
In the D flight, it was Mike Bouchon who is getting some
practice in prior to the Senior Tour beginning next month, shot 90 to take top
honors. Derek Kemp finished second with
a total of 96 and it was Kenneth Whitley (Father of Thomas mentioned in A
flight) who rounded out the top 3 with a score of 97.
