Cedarwood CC Recap
Monday April 9th, 2018
Thanks to all 110 players that came out on a great Monday
afternoon. The weather cleared early in
the day and the Sun shined down while we took to the course. Players from 6 different tours competed
through 18 holes and in 2 flights, 2 more holes were needed to decide the
overall winner.
Championship Flight
Jay Barnes wins for the second time in 2018 and takes a good
lead heading into the first major of the year.
Jay's round of +2 (73) was two shots better than 2 players. Mike Newell, making his tour debut, and John
Heffernan tied for 2nd with scores of +4 (75), but it was Mike that that took
home second using the scorecard playoff to decide the result. Scott Patnode rounded out the paying
positions shooting +5 (76).
A Flight
18 holes were not enough on this day. Seth Holloman, making his 2018 debut and
Tysen Sarkela from the Upstate tour headed back out on the course to determine
the winner. Both players shot +3 (74) on
Monday afternoon. After two additional
holes, Seth came away with the victory.
3rd place went to Jason Breedlove (76) who continues his strong play
over the first 4 events. 4th and 5th place had to be determined based on the
scorecard playoff as Adam Johnson, Scott Tarcy, also making his tour debut and
Scott Ide all shot +6 (77). In the end
it was Ide that took home 4th and Johnson took home 5th.
B Flight
Jack Marinelli, made his return to the tour a winning one,
taking home first place shooting +10 (81).
Xin Zhang continues his strong play early in 2018 shooting +11 (82)
which was good enough for 2nd place.
Robert Gruendel took home 3rd place shooting +13 (84), Luke Lavorato
took home solo 4th place with a score of +14 (85) and 5th place had to go to
the scorecard playoff to decide who would take home the last paying spot. Vic Lawrence, Flip Lea (Central Carolina),
Allen Hagen and David Aussicker all shot +17 (88) on this day, but it was Vic
who won the tiebreaker.
C Flight
Eric Seibert wins for the first time on tour, shooting +16,
(87) to win by 2 shots. I'm not sure we
could have wiped the smile off his face when we were validating the scores to
ensure the victory was complete. Second
went to newcomer David Cline who edged out Mike Carso who made a return to the
tour after a many year hiatus. Both
players shot +18 (89), but again it was Cline who won the tiebreaker. Rounding out the top 4 was Steve Daniels who
beat out Brian Villarreal (Central Carolina) in another scorecard playoff.
D Flight
Like the A flight, 18 holes was not enough to settle the
score. Dannie Gay and Mark Stone headed
back out on the course to see who would take home first place. It took 2 additional holes for Dannie to
score the victory and his first ever on tour for the 2018 newcomer. Both players shot +22 (93's) on Monday
afternoon.
Thanks again to all who came out and remember to register
and Pay for our next event, The Monroe Masters.
