Northstone CC - 2018 Recap
On Saturday, 114 players Teed it up at Northstone CC on a hot and humid afternoon. For a time, the sky’s darkened and it appeared that we were minutes away from being called off the golf course, but as luck would have it, Lake Norman caused the storm to disappear in the nick of time and we got the round completed as intended.
Championship Flight
In the Championship Flight, we had our only on-course playoff with John Heffernan and Brian McGowan both finishing at 73 (+1). It took two extra holes and it was Heffernan pulling out the victory with a par on the second playoff hole. 3rd place went to Daniel Jackson with a 75 (+3) and the 4th and final paying spot went to Mark Ballew with a score of 77 (+5)
A Flight
In the A Flight, Northstone Member, Whit Fairer 73 (+1) put his local course knowledge and a nice Eagle on 12 to secure a 4 stroke victory shooting his best round on tour this year. With the eagle on 12, Whit also collected a flight skin and super skin on the day and an extra $278 . 2nd place went to Clabie Edmond who played in the same group shot 77 (+5). 3rd place went to Joe Zabrecky who beat out Paul Aschman on the scorecard playoff, both players shooting 78 (+6).
B Flight
In the B Flight, it was Chuck Young with a great round of 80 (+8) to secure a 1 shot victory over Local Northstone resident John Andersen who shot 81 (+9). 3rd, 4th and 5th had to be settled with a scorecard playoff as we had 3 golfers tie with scores of 82 (+10). In the end, David Aussicker was 3rd, Allen Hagen was 4th and Xin Zhang took home 5th. Rounding out the top 6 and final paying position was Ben Hughes who show 83 (+11).
C Flight
In the C Flight, Michael Guarino who shot 86 (+14), grabbed a one shot victory and more importantly his first ever tour win. Michael has been close over the past two years but has always come up a little short, but not today. Mike Carson who shot 87 (+15) took home 2nd place. 3rd and 4th place was decided by a scorecard playoff where James Carey beat Andrew Schwab, both players shooting 88 (+16).
D Flight
In the D Flight, Northstone member Phil Waldier took home his first victory of the year shooting 88 (+16). Eric Herman took home second shooting 91 (+19) and Keith Gibson rounded out the top 3 with a score of 92 (+20).
