Jaspers, Jones, Boeving, Pharr, Kemp all win at Firethorne.
Theme for the day, Heat Index… I’m not sure if we have had a day that has
felt this hot on the golf course. Team
that with the always tough Firethorne course itself and the winners ultimately
persevered to take home the trophies on this day.
In the Champ Flight, it was once again, Joe Jaspers who took
home the 1st place trophy shooting the only under-par round on the
day. Joe’s 1 under 71 was one better
than Jim Aughtry who shot an even par round of 72. This was Jim’s 3rd consecutive AGT
tournament round of 72. Charles Devenney
a recent A flight graduate shot a 2 over par round of 74 and took home 3rdplace honors. This was Charles first top
4 placing in the Championship flight, congratulations on a well-deserved
finish. Rounding out the top 4 was
Central Carolina’s Jared Jewett with a 3 over par round of 75.
In the A Flight it was Central Carolina’s Ivan Jones who
took first place honors with a 3 over
par round of 75. Ivan’s card was one of
the final A flight cards to post as Tom Chambers and Michael Brandenburg were
set to head on out on the course to settle their tie. As it turned out, with Ivan’s round being
posted, Tom and Michael went to the cards to settle the 2nd place
Tie of 76’s. It was Chambers who took
second and Brandenburg settling for 3rd. Rounding out the top 4 was AJ Jackson with
round of 80 who again won a scorecard playoff with recent B Flight Graduate,
Allen Hagen.
In the B Flight it was looking to be an on-course playoff
between Geof Smith and Greg Sherill who shot rounds of 83. But later arriving cards by Duane Fisher, of
Central Carolina, who shot an 82, then to top those scores was Dan Boeving’s 79
to take the top honors… Geof Smith took
home the 3rd place honors via a scorecard playoff.
In C Flight, Tony Pharr lapped the field today with a great
round of 80. Rondal Gibson took second
place with another good round of 86. 3rdplace was decided by a scorecard playoff between Gene Bass and Larry Hinson who
both shot 87. Gene took home 3rdand Larry 4th.
In the D flight, it was Derek Kemp who continues his good
play in the D flight winning with a Total of 95. Jon MacIsaac took home second
place honors by again beating Mark Stone in a Scorecard playoff, both players
shooting rounds of 98.
