Monroe Masters Recap.
What a weekend. 115 golfers started on a beautiful Carolina weekend. Sunny skies and dry conditions greeted the golfers for the first time this season.
In the Championship Flight, Joe Jaspers returns to winner circle for the first time in 2019. Joe shot 70-68 for a two-day total of 138 (-6) to won by 3. Scott Roberts takes second shooting 72-59 (-3). Third place goes to John Heffernan who shot 76-74 (+6). Fourth place went to Jeff Malone who came back strong on Day 2 shooting 79-72 (+7).
In the A Flight, Wesley Jones comes from behind shooting 80-78 (+14) to win by 3 over 3 golfers who all shot identical 2 days total of 161. Second goes to Curtis Vincent shooting 84-77 (+17). Third went to Duane Fisher who shot 81-80 (+17) and Fourth went to Jason Benguche who shot 80-81 (+17). The Tiebreaker for 2nd, 3rd and 4th was based on Day 2 scores.
In the B Flight, we had our only on-course playoff. Ron Johnson (Columbia Tour) shot 76-86 (+18) to Tie with Nick Adams who shot 82-80 (+18). This was probably the quickest playoff in the history of the Charlotte Tour as it only took 4 shots. Both players drove it down the fairway on their Tee Shots, Nick hit his second shot and then Ron hit his approach from 100 yards into the hole for EAGLE! Third place went to Jack Beach who shot 83-80 (+19). Fourth place went to Roger Stevenson who shot 81-82 (+19). Fifth place went to Michael Guarino who shot 82-83 (+21) and Sixth went to David Quattlebaum who shot 83-83 (+22)
In the C Flight, Hector Moreno comes way back to claim a 3 shot victory shooting 88-82 (+26). Russell McDonald takes second also coming from way back with a great back nine on day 2 shooting 93-80 (+29). Third place went to Tony Pharr shooting rounds of 90-88 (+34) and rounding the top 4 was Shannon Osborne shooting 92-87 (+35).
In the D Flight. we had volatility all day long with several players taking the lead at one point in the day. While waiting in the clubhouse, Tom Gould was watching the Live Score intently as he was trailing the leader by one and was waiting to see if he might be lucky enough to get into a playoff. Unfortunately for the leader at the time, he took a double bogie 7 on the last hole to end up losing by 1 to Tom. Tom's 2-day total of 187 was 1 better than runner-up Toby Strickland who shot a 2 days total of 188.
As with All Charlotte Majors, the winner in each flight won, as a part of the prize, a paid entry to the Golfweek Am Tour National Championships to be held on Hilton Head Island in October.
Now.. prior to everyone finishing we had all the trophy's displayed and there was some conversation as to How many beers could be poured into the Winner's trophy. As you can see below, one winner wanted to find out himself as he celebrated when he got home. Hector Moreno was happy to inform us that there was 5 Corona's poured into the Trophy when this pic was taken.
