Championship Flight:
David Schmidt became a proud father on Tuesday evening and the called me Thursday to see if he could still get in the tournament. On Friday Dave called me back and said his wife had given him the go ahead to play but with one stipulation. “Just win Baby! And win he did with an opening round of 69-73=142 to beat out Jim Aughtry by 2 shots. Congrats to Dave & April on their brand new baby girl. Jim Augthry had started Saturday red hot and was 5 under par after 12 holes but doubles at 14 & 17 finished Jim at even par on Saturday 72. Fighting hard to win on Sunday Jim came up 2 shots short and place 2nd with 146. Ted Cox made the biggest move Sunday by firing a 3 under par round of 68; better his first day score by 10 shots. Cox finished in third place at 148. Michael Bailey and Todd McPherson both finished tied for 4th spot at 149, but it was Bailey edging out McPherson on the card for gift card.
A Flight:
Phil Gregorich won for the first time on tour and picked a big event to do it in. Phil had to come from 3 shots back on Sunday but his consistent rounds of 77-77=154 was good enough for the first place win. Mike Harter who lit it up Saturday with 74 had problems on Sunday and finished second overall at 156. Tommy Lee for the East TN tour came down and played well this weekend finishing in third place at 158, just nipping out Robin Hartwell by one shot who fished 4th at 159.
B Flight:
Marty James had not played in 6 months after knee and hip surgery but the local knowledge of Stonebridge got him back into form as he won by three shots this weekend at 154. Terry Upright you day one leader slipped a little bit on Sunday but still managed a second place finish. Scott Huneycutt cashed for the first time this season and finished third at 159, while Richard Ellams beat out Scott Ide for 4th place on the card.
C Flight:
Michael Hinson won broke through for the first time this season winning by 3 shots at 168. John Rinaldi loves Stonebridge and this weekend proved to be no different as he finished in second place at 171. Mat Crates and Jeff Cottom slept on tied for the lead with blistering 81’s on Saturday but Sunday was a different story for both players as Crates shot 90 and Cottom 91 to finish in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
