Tee Boxes Champ & A Flight Green Tees B & C Flight Blue Tees Championship Flight: Andy Price took advantage of his home course knowledge and won for the first time this season on tour. Price shot a (-1) 35 on his front nine but by the 14th hole Jim Aughtry had caught Price as they stood on the par 5 15th tee box. Both player birdied fifteen but it was Price who pulled away late also birding 16 and the par 3 17th to grab his first victory with a (-2) under par 70. Scott Goodelle had not played on tour for 3 years due to a bad accident from falling off a ladder. Obviously Goodelle did not loose his competitive fire as he shot an even par 72 good enough to win in a playoff for second place. Newcomer Daniel Walsh also fired a 72 and grabbed third place money and his best finish of the season. Jim Aughtry rounded out the top for with a one over par 73, but also grabbed the big skin of the day with his birdie on #2. A Flight: Chad Ballard called me one Wednesday and said he may have to pull out of the tournament due to a strained back. On Friday he said he thought he could make it and make it he did by being the only A Flight player to break 80 on Saturday. Ballard fired a smooth 75 to win by 6 shots. Scott Ide and Chris Hickey both shot a pair of 81’s but Ide got Hickey on the card for second place money. Rounding out the top 4 spots was Mike Harter with 82. B Flight: Terry Upright has come close a few times this season but Saturday he finally grabbed his first victory of the year. Battling all day in the same group with Doug Watson and Phil VanGeersdaelen the trio went back and forth but it was Upright in the end winning by a single shot as he posted 78 to win at Cowans Ford CC. Doug Watson and Phil VanGeersdaelen both shot 79’s but Watson nipped VanGeersdaelen on the card playoff for second place. Dennis Reames shot another r80 and grabbed 4th place money and also got the big promotion to A Flight with his AGT index dropping to 8.5 for the season. Congrat’s Dennis on your continued improvement and good luck with the boys in A Flight. C Flight: Durwin Striplin won for the second time this year and also won a promotion to the B flight for the remainder of the season. Striplin just nipped out Sindo Mayor by one shot to win with a smooth 81. Sindo Mayor also played well again and finished in second place with 82 and also got the bump to B flight with his AGT index dropping to 12.9. Jeff Gastineau was right in the mix and his 83 got him third place followed by John Rinaldi who finished 4th with 84. Just a reminder that the first ever 54 hole Tour Championship is just around the corner.
