Golfweek Amateur Tours will donate a year end check to Stand up to Cancer at the Tour Championship. To date we have raised over $28,000 around the country with Team Charlotte getting ready to support the cause. For those of you new to the tour we started are SUTC Team as a tribute to loosing one of our own Tour Directors at age 40 in 2008. Roger Mitterling had been a director for 12 years and when he got diagnosed with cancer he was gone in less than 2 years. Also, I lost my mother at 51 to Lymphoma and I know many of you have been touched by this terrible disease.
We will draw half the prizes Saturday day one at Irish Creek and then Sunday the other half Sunday day two of the major. Tickets are $20 each and you can buy as many as you want. There will be a button on the credit card payment page for easy payment or bring check or cash to any of the tournaments. You do not have to be present to win so please at least give on ticket a chance for the cause.
Also many tours last year did a 50/50 drawing for $10 a ticket. At Irish Creek day one we should have over 100 players so if everyone puts in just $10ea we will have $1,000 in the pot so $500 to the winner!
Prizes include: (Credit card payment link below)
Free Foursome to Myer Park CC
Free Foursome to Irish Creek
Free Foursome to The Palisades
Free Foursome to Cabarrus CC
2 x $25 gift cards from Longhorns Steakhouse
2 x $25 gift cards from Chili’s
2 x $25 gift cards from Edwin Watts
The Golfweek Amateur Tour has raised over $29,000 making our team the 6th highest fundraising team in Stand Up to Cancer history!
2011 Local Tour Monies Rose:
Championship Flight:
Hyun Chung won again; which is back to back Saturdays. Hyun started out fast with birdies at one and four but when he slammed his second shot in for eagle at the par 4 fifth hole he knew it was going to be his day. Hyun shot a 3 under par 33 on the front nine and then 37 on the back for a 2 under par winning score of 70. Billy Hall has yet to win this year but is knocking on the door as he finished in solo second with an even par round of 72. Steve French dropped out of the Stonebridge Masters because his new clubs had come in yet but Saturday they worked fine for him and he posted a third place finish with 74. Rounding out the top four spots was Jay Barnes with 75.
A Flight:
Jason Breedlove told me before he teed off that he was getting close and had let a few good rounds slip away this season but Saturday he played well all day. Breedlove posted a smooth 77 to win his first event of the season by two shots. Mike Nasekos finished in solo second place with 79 while Mark Gregory beat out Derek Dustin on the card playoff for third. Both Gregory and Dustin carded 82’s.
B Flight:
David Aussicker continued his stellar play and won by three shots Saturday with 81. With the score posted his index dropped below 9 so Davis happily accepts his new challenge of competing from now on in the A flight. John Rinaldi also was recently promoted to the B flight and has already gotten use to the stiffer competition as he cashed for the first time in second place with 84. Vic Lawrence grabbed third with 85 and Giovanna Jackson beat out Randy Hodges and Guy Roberts on the card for fourth place money at 86.
C Flight:
Blane Seley won for the first time this season and did so by a large margin at 84. With this score Blane also saw his index drop to B flight level and looks forward to now beating his buddy John Rinaldi in the next event. Michael Grant grabbed second with 93 and Copper Daniel beat our John Torres and Robert Smith on the card for third place money. All three players fired 96’s.
D Flight:
Our biggest field yet saw Joseph Rinaldi win for the first time ever on tour with an impressive round of 99. Jay turner grabbed second at 103 and last weeks winner Stephan N-Plotnicki was third at 104.
