February 2, 2019 - Sun City Carolina Lakes
A gorgeous day greeted the 114 players for the opening event of the Charlotte Tour season. Sun City - Carolina Lakes hosted the players and while the grass was still dormant, the course was in excellent shape based on the last few wet months we've been experiencing in the Carolinas.
Championship Flight.
In the Championship Flight, Scott Roberts was leading throughout the day until the last hole when John Heffernan made birdie on his last hole to move to 3 under par and get into a Tie with Scott. The players went back to the course and it only took one more hole to crown John Heffernan the inner of the opening event of the year. Steve French and Joe Jaspers tied for 3rd with 2 over par scores of 74, but it was French who won the scorecard playoff and claim 3rd.
A Flight
In the A Flight, it was Jacob Sigmon (+2, 74) who made a successful return after a few years away. Jacob was leading though most of the day and help on for a 2-shot victory. Eric Stanwick (+4, 76) was second. Scott Ide (+5, 77) was third after winning a scorecard playoff with Michael Brandenburg (+5, 77). Jon Evans (+6, 78) took home the 5th and final paying position on this day.
B Flight
In the B Flight, It was Josh Calhoun (Upstate Tour) who came away with a 4 shot victory after shooting +4, 76 on this afternoon. Cliff Sult (+8, 80) took home second place. Stefano Smith (+10, 82) took home solo third. Luke Lavorato, John Quinn and Nick Adams all shot +11, 83 to tie for 4th, but after the Scorecard playoff was completed, Lavorato took home 4th and Quinn took 5th,
C Flight
In the C Flight, Bradley Leak, Brent Coffey and Mike Carson all tied at +14, 86. They went back onto the course to settle the score. It took a couple of holes to settle the score and Leak took home top honors. Coffey had to settle for second and Carson third. Rounding out the top 4 was Eric Seibert (+16, 88) who won a scorecard playoff over Andre Banks, and Jerry York.
D Flight
In the D Flight, Raymond Hoerr picked up right where he left off after winning the points title in 2018. Raymond shot +19, 91 to claim a 3 shot victory over newcomer Matt Walker (+22, 94).
Today we had our largest single day Stand Up To Cancer collection for a single day event. We raised $350 with our 50/50 draw and another $100 after Joe Jaspers donated $100 after collecting his Flight and Super Skin winnings. As always, thanks to everyone that participates for this great cause.
