March 18th, 2017
Due to an overnight rain at the course, this event played long for most of the field. I'm happy to announce that we had 3 new members of the tour in 2017 take home the top prizes for their respective flights. Having to keep the carts on the path made for a longer day then we'd have hoped, but mother nature and course conditions have to take precendence.
In the champ Flight, it was John Heffernan taking top honors with a 2 over par 74. John is a new member to the tour this year and looks to be just another great addition to (In My Opinion), the best Champ flight on the tour. Coming up just a little short again this week was new CLT member, Jody Clary. Jody has finished 4th, 3rd and now 2nd in the first 3 events of 2017...Is a WIN next??? In determining the last two places we had to go to a scorecard playoff. Daniel Jackson, Mitch Howze, Jay Barnes and Jeff Malone all shot 77, but it was Jackson who took home 3rd and Howze who took home 4th place honors.
In the A flight, we had our only on-course playoff on this day. Tom Chambers and Jason Breedlove tied at 5 over par 77 and took off to the 10th hole to settle the matter. It didn;t take long as Tom unfortunately hit his only bad drive of the day OB. This opened the door for Jason which he took advantage of, to take home the top honors. 3rd place went to Wes Ellis, another transplant member, who shot an impressive 79 in these hard conditions. We then had another scorecard playoff to settle the last two remaining spots. Patrick Lavender, Greg McCoy, Marc Janse Van Rensberg and Michael Brandenburg att tied for 4th with 80, but in the scorecard playoff, it was Lavender who took home 4th and McCoy who took home 5th.
In the B flight, it was Chris Lepore who took home the top prize shooting a great round of 82 under these conditions. The scorecard playoff system was again used to settle the remaining spots as we had 5 golfers tied with 85. In the playoff, it ws David Aussicker taking 2nd, Rengan, Srinivasan taking 3rd, Mark Osborne taking 4th and Kirk Tatge taking home the last paying spot.
In the C Flight, it was not real close today. Chuck Young got off to a blazing start and was only 1 over par after nine holes. Not sure if the pressure starting getting to Chuck on the back nine, but his lead started to shrink as play wound down for the day. In the end, Chucks round of 84 was 3 better than 2nd place Robert Taggert (scorecard playoff) and 3rd place Luke Lavorato. 4th place went to Michael Martin with and 80 and rounding out the top 5 this week was John Andersen who whot 91.
In D Flight, it was newcomer, Chandler Carter who took home top honors with a round of 95. 2nd palce went to Vince Johnson (96) and winning a scorecard playoff for 3rd was Bob Beatty (97) over Keith Gibson.
I was watching the live scoring leaderbboard from the clubhouse for the last hour of the event and it was amzing the number of lead changes that occurred in this flight.
Thanks to all who played and I'll see you next week at Salisbury (if you are entered).
