Aughtry, Ervin, Boeving, Taggart and Farmer win their entries to 2017 National Championship
The 2 day major was shortened to a single day event due to the inclement weather that was forecasted for Sunday. As a result, the 127 players played hard until the end.
In the Champ Flight, Jim Aughtry took home the top honors with the best round of the day shooting 2 under par 70. Jay Barnes was solo second shooting 1 under par 71. Daniel jackson moved into solo 3rd with the help of an Eagle 3 on the par 5 first hole. Not only did this move him into 3rd place, but also gave him the only eagle on #1 to earn a Skin and Super Skin. Rouning out the top 4 was David Schmidt who shot 2 over par 74.
In the A Flight, John Ervin had his best round of the year and won by 4 shots. John's 1 under par round consisted of 5 birdies. It seemed that the flat stick was working to perfection on this day. Eric Stanwick and Don Bridges tied at 75 but it was Stanwick who took home second place using the scorecard playoff system. Rounding out the top 4 was Paul Aschmann who beat Michael Brandenburg using the scorecard playoff.
In the B flight, we had our only on-course playoff on this day. Dan Boeving and Chris Lepore both shot 5 over par rounds of 77. It took Dan 3 more hole to beat Chris in the playoff. Great rounds gentlemen! Cornelius Jackson and Kyle Brown both shot 79 to finish in a tie for 3rd, but it was Jackson's round that pervailed using the scorecard playoff.
In the C flight, it was Robert Taggart that cruised to victory on this day shooting a very good round of 80. Ken young was solo second shooting 85. Chuck Young was solo thrid with an 86 and rounding out the top 4 was Tony Pharr who shot 87.
In the D flight, it was very close as usual and this tournament was no exception. Newcomer, Jack Farmer took home top honors shooting 89. Second place went to Bradley Leak who shot 91. As you all know Live scoring is great to know where you stand....but it can also lead to more pressure being put on yourself as Billy Hunt could attest to. Billy was tied for the lead with 2 holes remaining when someone in the group mentioned that if he went bogie/bogie to fininh, he'd probably win. Well, that was a kiss of death and Billy found the water hazards on both 16 and 17 to finish 4 shots out of the win finishing in a T for 3rd.
Our next event takes us to Palisades Country Club on May the 13th. Please register now to guarantee your spot.
