Sky Valley Tournament Recap:
Over the last several years, Sky Valley Country Club has become a favorite stop on the Atlanta Golfweek Tour. Sky Valley is known as the "coolest" golf course in Georgia and it is cool in many senses of the word! While that label is intended to describe the temperature difference due to its elevation of roughly 3500 feet. However, what really sets this course apart is its picturesque mountain views on nearly every teebox, along with pristine bentgrass fairways and greens throughout the entire course.
Another classic battle in the Champ Flight was highlighted by a course playing nearly 7000 yards from the back teebox. Robert Side navigated his way to a narrow 1 stroke victory over Bryan Reynolds. Side carded a 78 on the day, while Reynolds turned in a 79.
The A Flight welcomed 2 new tour members to their first tournament along with a visiting guest from the Orlando tour. While the day began looking like a possible blowout win in this flight, the gap narrowed throughout the day. In the end, tour veteran Matthew Fiedler prevailed with a score of 81. Another highlight in A Flight came with 2nd place where the father and son duo playing their first tour event - Trent and Chandler Demore - tied for 2nd place, both carding 84s. That tie was broken by scorecard and went to Trent Demore.
More strong competition took place in the B Flight with Points leader Jimmy Kelley defending his title yet again. Kelley commanded another strong showing with a round of 84, claiming a 1 shot victory over new member and B flight challenger Brooks Blanton who turned in a round of 85.
C Flight saw visiting players from the Washington DC, Orlando and Augusta tours as well as another new Atlanta tour member. Just as exciting was the level of competition in the C Flight. First year member, Dustin Henson waited anxiously as leader in the clubhouse for nearly an hour after carding his round of 86, only to be bested by one of our longest tenured members and the current C Flight points leader, Charles Mathis, who carded an 85 on the day.
Last but certainly not least, the D Flight continues to shine in more ways than one. With 21 players competing for the day's trophy - it was sure to be a fight to the finish and that's exactly what we saw. As the final group finished - it was Josh Simmons and Boudreaux Reynolds (both new to the Atlanta Tour) that tied for 1st place with rounds of 91. Knowing their fate, the players quickly readied themselves for a playoff, then headed back to the course to settle the score before sunset. While the pair tied hole #1, Reynolds prevailed on hole #2 to end the day and bring home the trophy.
Thanks to all our Atlanta Tour members for your continued support as we seek to push our tour to new heights!
