Charlotte Tour defends the Egolf Carolina Cup
The Charlotte tour beats Hilton Head to defend the Egolf Carolina Cup for a second straight year.
A total of 5 tours competed in this years cup chase: Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Hilton Head and Upstate, SC.
Santee National GC once again hosted the cup finals and gave the players an exciting finish to the tournament. Starting out on hole #10, the teams were all square after 12 holes played. Hilton Head and Charlotte both lead in four matches, with one match being all square.
The first best-ball match of Jimmy Turner and Craig Case halved Scott Ide and James Cox of Charlotte on the final hole, coming back from a three down deficit. After all the best-ball matches were concluded Hilton Head had 2 ½ points and Charlotte had 2 ½ points.
In the singles matches Iain Hall of Charlotte and Marcus Byler of Hilton Head were both victorious. Now with only 3 holes left to play the last two singles matches would decide the cup. Adam Vincent of Charlotte halved his match after being four down after the first four holes. Scott Berkner of Hilton Head chipped in on 16 for birdie to go one up, but on the 17th Rick Tomei of Charlotte birdied, rolling in a 30 foot putt to get the match all square. On the 18th Tomei hit a perfect drive and second shot to post a par and win Charlotte the Egolf Carolina Cup.
Roy Santonil of Charlotte aced the 208 yard par 3 7th hole with a 5 wood. It was his 3rd ace and helped his best ball team win the match one up.
