Lancaster Golf Club - 2019
Thanks to the 81 golfers who came out on this Holiday weekend to play in our last 1-day event on the Charlotte Schedule. The weather at Lancaster Golf Club was much different this time around as blue skies greeted the players on this afternoon.
In the Championship Flight, it was our Scott Roberts who wins again in 2019 and increases his points lead, but it was easy. After 18 holes, Scott and Wally Love were both tied at 1 under par 71 which caused the players to head back out on the course to settle the tie. After both players tied the first playoff hole, Scott was albeit o birdie the second playoff hole to claim the victory. Third place went to Jobe Dyson who shot 76 (+4), who was not even supposed to be here today, but with Hurricane Dorian coming to Florida, Jobe had to alter his vacation plans and was able to play. Steve French takes 4th with a 77 (+5).
In the A Flight, what looked like a potential 4 player playoff as we have 4 players tied at +6, some had finished while we still had one group on the course to finish. Well the last hole made a big difference. One of the +6 players unfortunately did not have a good last hole, another in his group sure did. Andy Murrow playing the par 5 2nd hole as his last hole found himself at +7 and needing a birdie to get into the tie at +6. Well, I guess he didn't want to be in a playoff as he Eagled the last hole and getting to +5 and winning by 1 shot. What a way to finish. 3 players tied at 78 (+6) and as a result, we went to the scorecards to decide the final placings. Phil VanGeersdaelen takes second, Ben Barrs (Augusta) takes Third and Scott Ilowite settles for 4th.
In the B flight, Rick Dilsworth shoots a great round of 79 (+7) to win by 3. Flip Flippo takes home second shooting 82 (+11). Roger Stevenson wins a scorecard playoff over Terry Upright, both players shooting 83 (+11) and rounding out the top 5, Jack Beach wins a scorecard playoff over 3 others shooting 84 (+12)
In the C Flight, Glen Nutting wins for the first time on tour. Glen had everything going his way even before the round began. After setting a fashion statement with his Green/Yellow belt that he says matched his shirt, he wins the 50/50 draw for $250. That must have settled him down as he went on to shoot 84 (+12) and claim a 1 shot victory over Hector Moreno who shot 85 (+13). Rounding out the top 3 was Jake Wright who shot 86.
In the D Flight, we had our largest margin of victory on this day. Brett Lee used his length advantage to shoot 89 (+17) and win by 7 over Samir Patel who won a scorecard playoff over Richard Zonjic.
On a separate note, I would like to make mention that Greg Pounds (C Flight) who did not have a great round today in terms of total score shooting 93 and finishing well back of the leaders, but, he did put together 2 great shots on the par 3, 13th hole for a birdie to claim the ONLY Super Skin on the day. Greg’s Birdie on 13 rewarded him with $59 Flight skin and $630 for the Super Skin.
I know many of you don't play in super skins as you feel you don't have a chance against the higher flights, which I can understand, but when you do, boy does it payoff.
Our next event is the Local Finals, which is our final 2-day event. It will be held at the Club at Irish Creek on Saturday the 14th, followed by Northstone CC on Sunday the 15th. This field will sell out at 112 players, once we get to 112 paid players, registration will be turned off and a waiting list will be started.
Thanks
Phil
