It is a different time for the tour, but thankfully, we have
courses that are still allowing us to play.
In order to keep with Social Distancing guidelines, we have had to move
to straight Tee-time which allows us to not have more than a few golfers
arriving when players arrive 15-30 minutes prior to their tee-times. So far
this has worked out well and I am thankful to all the players that want to
continue to compete when we have our tournaments. Although it was cold and windy to start, we
were very fortunate that we were able to play due to the storm that came thru
on Sunday night and into Monday morning that caused so much damage to our
neighboring states to the south and west of us. I would also like to thank all those players
that decided to walk, either by carrying their own bag, using a push/pull cart
of just having their bag on a cart but walking to allow as many players as we
had as the course had a total of only 55 carts available to us.
In the Championship Flight, Joe Jaspers claims victory with
a score of +1, 72. We had a tie for
second place between John Malone, Dennis Reames and Jay Barnes who all shot
+3, 74.
When we went to the scorecards to determine 2nd thru 4th, we used the USGA
method for Tie-breaking which looks at the back nine score as the first tie
breaker. With this as the Tie Breaker,
Malone takes 2nd, Reames 3rd and Barnes rounded out the top 4.
In the A Flight, it was newcomer, David Herms who claimed
victory with a score of +1, 72 and a promotion to the Champ Flight for his next
event. Josh Myers a local member of Pine
Island takes second with a score of +3, 74. Marcus Maddox (Augusta Tour), takes
3rd with a score of +4, 75. Judd Dye
takes 4th after winning a tiebreaker with Marc Janse Van Rensburg and Mac McMillan
(Central) who all shot +7, 78. Judd and
Marc both shot 39 on the back nine so we had to go to the last 6 holes which
turned things in Judd's favor. Marc
settled for 5th place beating Mac on the Back nine.
In the B Flight, Chris Beeman claims victory with a score of
+7, 78. David Biggs (Augusta) claims
second with a score of +8, 79. Colby Shull who continue to play well early in
the year finishes 3rd by winning a scorecard playoff over Dale Ambrose who
claims 4th both players shooting +9, 80.
Travis Blackwell (Upstate) claims 5th with a score of +10, 81.
In the C Flight we had quite the drama coming into the 18th
and final hole. Glenn Nutting was
patiently waiting behind the green as the final group approached the green with
Raymond Hoerr, Dean Barron and Tony Pharr all clinging to a 1 stroke lead. After each player failed to hit the green
with their second shot, it appeared like a playoff would ensure. Unfortunately,
a skulled/thinned chip from Raymond led to a double bogie and outside the top
3. Both Barron and Pharr left themselves
with similar par putts in the 8-10 feet range.
Barron just missed his par putt setting the stage for Pharr. Tony calmly
rolled in his final putt for Par to claim the victory. Tony’s final score of +13, 84 was 1 better
than Nutting and Barron who had to settle for second and third respectfully.
In the D Flight Danny Sullivan (Upstate) claims his second
victory on the Charlotte tour this year and a promotion to the C Flight. Danny's round of +13, 84 was 4 better than
Derek Kemp who rounded out the top 2 paying positions with a score of +16, 87.
