Firethorne CC Recap 2018
119 Golfers started on a sunny July afternoon. Heat issues caused a couple of wd's throughout the day and we hope that these guys get better soon and get back out on the tour asap.
Championship Flight
In the Champ Flight, we had our only on-course playoff. Joe Jaspers and David Schmidt battled all day long both finishing at 2 under par 70. It only took 1 hole for Jaspers to claim victory as David could not get up and down for par. Third place went to Job Dyson who also was able to break par on the day shooting 71. Rounding out the top 4 was Jeff Malone (73) who came in at at +1 to win a scorecard playoff over Jim Aughtry (73).
A Flight
In the A Flight, AJ Jackson shot an impressive (+1) 73 to claim a 3 shot victory. Second place went to Chris Edmands who shot another impressive +4, 76. 3rd and 4th place had to be decided by a scorecard playoff as we had 4 golfers who all shot 80 on the day. (Terry Upright, James Cox, Clabie Edmond and Joe Zbaracky) In the end it was Upright who took 3rd and Cox who took home 4th.
B Flight
In the B Flight we had an impressive 40-man field. If anyone was watching live score thought out the afternoon, this flight had the most volatility in the top positions. Robert Gruendel took home victory shooting a 9 over par 81. Chris Lepore was one shot back at 82. Producer Geof from Kat country was right there all day long and came so close to winning his first ever event. His round of 83 was good for 3rd. 4th place went to our most tenured member (24 years) Vic Lawrence who shot 84. 5th and 6th place prizes were decided by a scorecard playoff. Brad Greene took home 5th and newcomer Marshal Boheler grabbed 6th place.
C Flight
In the C Flight, Christian Casper grabs another victory and a potential promotion to the B flight when scores are posted to the national database. Christian shot a round of +10, 82 winning by 3 shots. Dylan Greer takes home 2nd place shooting 85. Jon Wolff takes home 3rd place shooting 86 and rounding out the top 4 was Ben Gilbert who shot 88.
D Flight
In the D Flight, Derek Kemp took the lead early on in the day and never looked back. Derek's score of 94 was 3 better than runner up Jeff Finger who shot 97.
Our next event takes us back to Norhtstone CC in Huntersville on August 11th. Please make sure you are registered and paid to guarantee your spot as the field will be limited to 112.
