Joe Jaspers win for the second year in a row at Irish Creek to capture the Golfweek Open. Joe’s first round included a triple bogey but also 77 birdies en route to a 2 under par round of 69. Right on Joe’s heels was Jim aughtry at 70 followed by Chris Cassetta (71) and John White (72).
Entering Day 2 Jaspers did not let up turning in 32 with four birdies followed by to more birdies on the back nine for 68 and a 36 hole total of 137. Jim aughtry finished in second place win an ever par total of 142. Third place went to Chris Cassetta at 143 beating out John White and Andy Price on the card playoff. White got 4th and Price 5th with a second round 68 which included 2 eagles.
A Flight:
The day one leaders all battled tough on Sunday as Chris Hickey, Darryl Ewing and Kevin Ronan all turned in second round 77’s. Had it not been for the day one fireworks of Chris Hickey who finished birdie, birdie & hole out eagle on number 5 this probably would have been a large playoff. Hickeys 74 then 77 gave him the victory by three and he hoisted the crystal open trophy. Darryl Ewing finished in second and Kevin Ronan third three shots back of Hickey at 154. Newcomer Jeff Netherton took fourth place money at 157.
The biggest cash of the weekend came from A Flight and Jason Breedlove as he won the only skin Saturday with a birdie on 16 worth $525. ($450 Super Skin and $75 Flight skin)!
B Flight:
Tyler Lucas led by 1 shot over Richard Ellams but as the day went on Ellams would triumph on the two days. Ellams posted a smooth 80 for a two day victory total of 158. Rich Dutcher shot 81 Saturday and 80 Sunday to grab second place at 161. Tyler Lucas still hung in there to finish in third place at 162 and Clif Morgan came from way back tying the low flight score of the day 76. Morgan’s two day total ended up being 162.
C Flight:
Matt Crates lead by only two shots after day one and ended up winning his first major ever by only one shot over John Rinaldi. Crates’ 2 day total of 170 just beat out Rinaldi who finished second at 171. Nolan Elenz also came from way back firing an 80- and vaulting to third place with a 173 two day total. Brian Sanders tried to catch Elenz but he still managed a fourth place spot at 174.
